BoxMash.com, a new site for boys aged six to 11 about ‘the stuff they love’, is reaching out to the toy industry.
The site soft launched in August and in the last two months BoxMash.com claims over 50,000 visitors and Twitter accounts with over 800 followers.
The new site is run by Network N Ltd, a UK-based media business led by Future’s former Publishing Director James Binns, who previously looked after official magazines for Disney, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and Jetix.
“I have two young boys aged nine and 11 and looking across the web I was really surprised how poorly they are served by quality content. That’s why we launched BoxMash.com.” said Binns.
BoxMash is a brand safe and kid safe environment. This means being particularly careful on the language they use, the advertisers they accept, not covering games rated 12+ and not capturing any data on children.
Commercially, Warner Bros Games is working with BoxMash on the LEGO games and the site has run promotions with Nintendo and competitions to win Skylanders SWAP Force and copies of EA games.
"Videogames and toys haven’t always played well – but we want to be a place for the toy industry to talk to a boys ages 6-11. We’re happy to run editorial and competitions," added Binns.
