The new online marketplace, OnBuy has now gone live for trading, and reports a ‘magical start’ as it welcomed its first customers to the checkout.
The site opened for a live trial on Saturday, December 7th, during which a children’s magic set sold through trader Zizy Limited for £18.99, marketing the site’s first purchase.
Sellers offering thousands of product lines have already signed up to trade on the site, with goods ranging from toys, games and electrical goods to homeward, outdoor equipment and camping.
After the successful test, OnBuy officially opened its checkouts on Friday, December 13th and is gradually making more products available for sale each day.
Cas Paton (pictured), managing director of OnCommerce and creator of OnBuy, said the test was crucial to the site’s consumer launch.
"This was just one of the stages we needed to get through to make sure OnBuy is ready for the masses," said Paton.
"We’ve been under the public gaze for some time now and finding the right moment to test the checkout was very important."
OnBuy has been launched as a ‘British alternative to Amazon’, offering sellers lower rates than its rival in every category.
OnBuy plans to offer millions of products from major brands to independent retailers and to roll out distinctive platform developments by mid-2014.
