Marvel film has surpassed entire box office run of The Dark Knight, with £49.4m to date.
Marvel Avengers Assemble has become the UK’s number one superhero movie of all time, Disney has confirmed.
The film has surpassed the entire box office run of The Dark Knight, and has taken £49.4 million to date.
It overtook the UK box office totals of Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Hulk and Captain America some weeks ago.
Marvel Avengers Assemble is also The Walt Disney Company UK’s second biggest live action film to ever be released, behind Pirates of the Caribbean, and the third biggest film ever to be released by the company.
In addition, Marvel’s official Facebook site is liked by over four million people, while the new Facebook game – Marvel: Avengers Alliance – attracts more than 1.2 million daily users.
Consumer products – ranging from toys to adult apparel – have also seen a strong uplift in sales on the back of the movie’s success.
The franchise will also continue to build throughout the summer, with new additions to the existing products available, exclusive content for the Facebook game, a Marvel Super Hero takeover of Disney’s Club Penguin from June 14th and a new animated series of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes due to premiere on Disney XD.
Filming has also just begun on Iron Man 3, which will be released in 2013.
