Ladies and gentlemen, get your wallets ready, this shit is getting serious. The first half of 2023 was pretty strong, with a dozen releases that will be remembered for many, many years to come.
And just when we thought that would be it, the second semester comes to blow the mouth of the balloon for good, especially this next month. Come check out the main releases of September 2023 now.
1. Starfield – September 6th
And we started the month with this gigantic high. Starfield is the first new franchise from Bethesda Game Studios in 25 years, is being directed by Todd Howards and promises to be the biggest game ever made by the developer. For those who are aware, this already makes it one of the most anticipated games of this decade, but what will it bring of interest?
Well, we can start with over 1000 planets, countless moons and several explorable space stations. You can add a huge character creation and ship customization system and an absolutely ridiculous amount of content. In other words, this is the dream game for lovers of RPGs and space operas, in addition to being the most ambitious project led by the aforementioned Todd Howards, whose curriculum includes projects such as Fallout 3 e The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Starfield launches September 6th for PC and Xbox Series X and S, and will be available to Game Pass subscribers right away.
2. NBA 2K24 – September 8
48 hours later, on the 8th, the basketball players’ favorite annual release arrives. NBA 2K24 will bring several innovations, such as ProPLAY, a technology that promises to translate real recordings of the American league into games, such as animations and movements seen in real matches.
In addition, there will be several modes, including the familiar MyCAREER and MyTeam, and the new The W mode, which focuses on the WNBA women’s league. Finally, players will be able to relive the main moments of Kobe Bryant’s career, the eternal Black Mamba, in a mode that follows his career from his youth to being considered one of the best in history. 3. The Crew Motorfest – September 14th
On the 14th, there’s news for fans of racing games. The Crew Motorfest is the new title of the Ubisoft racing franchise and will take place in a paradisiacal map inspired by the island of Oahu, which is part of Hawaii, where an automobile festival full of incredible cars is taking place.
There are more than 600 vehicles available from different categories that can be purchased, customized and used by players in different races or exploring this beautiful open world. The Crew Motorfest will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
4. Mortal Kombat 1 – September 19
On the 19th, we have the arrival of the long-awaited new chapter of the most violent franchise in the world of video games. Mortal Kombat 1 takes place after the events of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermathwith Liu Kang becoming God of Fire and preparing the Great Kung Lao for the first edition of the Mortal Kombat tournament, which will take place in a new timeline.
The game will feature a base squad of 20 playable characters and 12 assistants, called kameos. This is a new mechanic introduced in the game that will allow the player to choose his fighter and another one to help during combats with powers and combos, a significant change in the gameplay of the title. It is worth mentioning that they will not be playable, so it will not be possible to control Motaro, Goro and Jax, for example. Mortal Kombat 1 will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
5. Lies of P – September 19th
If you’re not much of a fighter, but you like a soulslike, on the same day 19 there’s a game that’s just for you. Lies of P was developed by the South Korean studio Neowiz Games and is inspired by the novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, by Carlo Collodi.
Therefore, we assume the role of Pinocchio who wakes up in an abandoned train, having to face a chaotic world to find his creator, Gepetto, with the objective of becoming human. As previously mentioned, it is a soulslike, with 30 different weapons and an item creation system, allowing 100 different combinations.
In addition, we are talking about the famous wooden doll that cannot lie, a characteristic that was adapted in the Lying System, which will allow the player to make decisions that will affect the course of the plot. Lies of P releases for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, coming directly to Xbox Game Pass.
6. Payday 3 – September 21st
Going to the 21st, we have news for those who like to rob a bank with friends… in the virtual world, calm down. Payday 3 takes place after the events of the previous game, with the gang, consisting of Dallas, Chains, Wolf and Hoxton, returning to the life of crime and joining to commit new robberies.
Much of the gameplay is similar to its predecessors, however it brings some new features for a more stealth approach. Changes include mini cameras that can be placed on guards or at strategic points, and for those who prefer straightforward shooting, with weapons improving as the player uses them. There are also improvements and new features in the skill tree, which will directly affect players’ strategy. And it will have news after its launch, such as the change of graphics engine from Unreal Engine 4 to 5. Payday 3 will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
7. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty – September 26
On the 26th, we’ll find out if CD Projekt RED will clean up its image. the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 it was pretty chaotic, we must admit, but it could be that the launch of the expansion Phantom Liberty change everything. She will add a new story, bringing as a plot for V to save nothing more, nothing less than the president of the New United States. It will also bring world-renowned actor Idris Elba in the role of Solomon Reed, an agent of the FIA intelligence department, taking players into a story more focused on suspense and investigation.
And everything will take place in Dogtown, a city ruled by a dangerous militia that shoots first and asks questions later. With it, several secondary missions and activities will be added. In addition, CD Projekt will be releasing Update 2.0 for free, which will fix a bunch of bugs and add a revamped skill system, new cybernetic implant system, changes to police behavior, and a host of other new features. 8. EA Sports FC 24 – September 29
And closing the month, on the 29th, we have a well-known game, but with a new name. EA Sports FC 24 is the new football game from Electronic Arts that changed its name after the end of the company’s agreement with FIFA. This year’s edition will bring realistic animations of more than 180 professional athletes, such as kicks, runs and even tackles, the introduction of Playstyles, which promise to translate the style of play of several stars to the virtual world, female players in Ultimate Team mode and agents for negotiations in Career Mode.
