With the recent release of the DLC Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk 2077 and also the big update to version 2.0 of the game, many are curious to know if the game is really better and has achieved its redemption. Creators behind channels like Digital Foundry and ElAnalistaDeBits have already published their technical analyzes showing the state of Cyberpunk on consoles.

A Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.0 arrived on new generation consoles and PC with several changes and new features for game mechanics and systems, but also brought technical improvements. The Phantom Liberty DLC includes more story and a new area to explore, which is a little heavier than the base game.

As you can see in the video above, visual differences between version 2.0 and previous exist, but they are minimal and are not very drastic. One of the biggest changes is in the profile of the consoles’ Quality and Performance modes, which are rebuilt from different resolutions.

ElAnalistaDeBits also did its own resolution count analysis and summarized its very similar results.

The dynamic resolution scale remains close to 1260p in Quality mode and 972p in Series S performance mode; At 1440p in Quality mode and 1620p in performance mode on Series X and at 1440p in Quality mode and 1512p in Performance mode on PS5.

Cyberpunk 2077 performance on our consoles

Both the 2.0 update itself and the DLC Phantom Liberty they run relatively well on consoles. In quality modes, performance remains almost always at a stable 30 fpswith just a few moments of falls during the journey across the world.

In performance mode, while the frame rate remains very close to the 60fps target, it tends to have more falls or remains at a lower level, still around 50fps. This is more serious for the Xbox Series S, but can still be seen in the most powerful video games.

On consoles (except the Series S) performance mode features some Ray Tracing lighting effects. They are very limited, however, and don’t even compare to the PC version, especially compared to the overdrive mode.

In general, the DLC seems to be heavier than the base game on consoles and the PlayStation 5 seems to run the game slightly better than the Xbox Series X, but the difference is still small.

Still, the folks at Digital Foundry comment that they think we have a better experience with Cyberpunk 2077 in performance mode on consoles. If the monitor is compatible with VRR, the drops in frames per second are not so annoying.

Finally, it is worth highlighting the loading times. ElAnalistaDeBits tests show that all versions load relatively quickly on the SSD, but the PS5 and the PC end up ahead of Microsoft consoles.
