Riot announced what the format of the MSI 2024. The competition that will take place in China will bring some important changes, which will directly impact the Worlds 2024, o LoL World Cup.

MSI 2024 format

In this edition of MSI, 12 teams will compete, 2 from LPL, LCK, LCS and LEC and one from LLA, CBLOL, PCS and VCS.

The competition begins with the play-in, with the runners-up from LPL, LCK, LCS and LEC and the champions from LLA, CBLOL, PCS and VCS. The teams will be drawn and will face each other in two different brackets in the MD3 format, with double elimination. First and second place in each group advances to the next stage

Key phase

The four play-in teams and the major region champions will play in a single bracket, with double elimination and all matches will be in the MD5 format. The result will lead to the Final, which will decide the MSI 2024 Champion team.

Data from MSI 2024

This year’s MSI starts on May 1st, and the initial phase (play-in) runs until the 5th. The bracket phase takes place over two weeks: the first is from the 7th to the 12th and the second runs from the May 14th to May 18th. The grand final takes place on 19/05.

What’s new at this year’s MSI

Riot announced that from 2024 the MSI will have a direct impact on the LoL World Cup. The MSI 2024 champion will have a direct place in the Worlds, but to do so, he needs to at least go to the playoffs in his league in the second split. The MSI runner-up guarantees an additional spot for their region.
