Meet Disco Elysium – The Final Cut

Developed by British studio ZA/UM, Disco Elysium – The Final Cut is a narrative RPG that takes players to the city of Revachol. The game’s story revolves around an alcoholic detective with amnesia who investigates a gruesome murder, while also becoming involved in political conspiracies.

One of the highlights of the experience is the way you make choices in the game. Each decision made in a dialogue can shape not only the fate of the protagonists, but also the city and its inhabitants.

In May of last year, several ZA/UM developers reported a toxic relationship with the director and lead writer of Disco ElysiumRobert Kurvitz — as well as other abuse from fans, which even resulted in multiple death threats to a developer at the British studio.

In a documentary lasting over two and a half hours, the channel People Make Games heard from several company employees who complained about Kurvitz’s toxic leadership during the development of the first game. Check it out below:

Despite this, in the media Disco Elysium was widely acclaimed for its engaging narrative and innovative mechanics. In addition to the “Best Indie Game” trophy, the title also won other categories at the 2019 TGA, such as “Best Narrative”, “Best RPG” and “Best Indie Debut” — not to mention other awards.

Na Steam, Disco Elysium has collected more than 86 thousand “very positive” reviews, while on Metacritic the game boasts a respectable average of 89 points — based on 31 reviews from specialized media.
