The horror genre promises to be one of the busiest in 2024. Even before the year began, the list of releases was already huge, and the tendency is for it to grow until the second half of the year, where more titles will be announced at the main gaming events.

Among the games already confirmed we have remakes of classics such as Alone in The Dark e Silent Hill 2as well as new chapters of successful franchises such as Tormented Souls, Little Nightmares e Outlast. Check out the full list!

1. Alone in the Dark

Originally scheduled to be released in October 2023, Alone in the Dark it will only be released in March 2024. According to its producer, the reason for the postponements is precisely to guarantee a high quality delivery for fans of the franchise.

Tormented Souls pleased me a lot by presenting gameplay very similar to Resident Evil, along with many scares and somewhat complex puzzles. Now, three years later, it will receive a sequel that promises to repeat the success of the first game.

Players once again control Caroline Walker, who will now need to save her sister Anna from a mysterious illness. To do this, she will have to turn to the supernatural, performing an ancient and forbidden ritual, in search of a cure to save her.

3. Little Nightmares 3

Another successful franchise that will gain a new title in 2024 is Little Nightmares. The platform horror game will have an unprecedented story, where new players will be able to adventure without having played the first chapters of the series.

For the first time, it will have an online cooperative mode, where players on the same platform and different generations, such as PS5 and PS4, will be able to participate in the same match. Furthermore, the guest does not need to have a copy of the title, just participate in the same game together with the person who owns the original version.

4. The Outlast Trials (console version)

The Outlast Trials is the new chapter in the famous horror franchise, which is considered one of the scariest in recent years. It was released exclusively, as early access, for PCs in 2023, and will gain its definitive version, and for consoles, in the first half of this year.

It features an unprecedented cooperative mode where you, together with other players, need to survive a kind of giant laboratory. Once there, you are subjected to the most frightening experiences, needing to join forces to avoid being eliminated along the way.

5. Silent Hill 2 Remake

The most acclaimed chapter in the franchise Silent Hill will get a remake this year. At least that’s what fans hope, since, so far, there is no release date from developer Bloober Team, not even from Konami. However, experts point out that it is vital for the commercial side of the company to have one of the main launches of recent years arriving in 2024.

The game’s story puts the player in control of James Sunderland, a man who receives a letter from his wife Mary, asking him to go to the city of Silent Hill to meet her again. The problem is that she died two years ago, even so, James’s desperation will make him go to the place to investigate the origin of this letter.

6. Slitterhead

Announced in 2021, Slitterhead is a horror game that promises to be one of the highlights of the year. It is being developed by Keiichiro Toyama, the same creator of the first Silent Hill e Sirenand will bring gameplay that will mix elements of psychological horror, with challenging combat, including soulslike elements.

The game’s synopsis has not yet been revealed, but in the promotional video it is possible to notice elements from Toyama’s two most famous titles, be it the frightening setting of Silent Hillsuch as the supernatural elements and creatures of Siren.

7. Holstein

If you are a fan of indie games, you need to keep an eye on Holstein. Produced by Polish studio Sonka, the game is inspired by classic titles from the PS1 era, such as Silent Hill e Resident Evil. However, the game goes further in its formula.

The psychological horror and survival game takes place in a Polish city in the 90s, with the protagonist searching for his friend while the place is haunted by a mysterious force. The most interesting part of the title is its gameplay, which features changes in camera perspective and a lot of action packed with modern and retro elements.

So far, Holstin has no confirmed release date, but the game will have versions for PC and PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC consoles. On Steam, you can even download a free demo of the game.
