The indie market is one of the most prominent and interesting in the games industry. The reason? The niche always generates out-of-the-box ideas that can provide very different experiences for players — as is the case with Screenbound.

Have you ever imagined playing video games while playing video games? So it is. The new indie from developer Crescent Moon Games comes with the proposal to place players in a strange “two-dimensional 5D” space — which represents the sum of “3D and 2D”.

Screenbound is a platform game where you move in a first-person view while playing in 2D on your Qboy screen — a simple reference to Nintendo’s Game Boy.

The title was recently announced for PC (Steam), but does not yet have a defined release date. Check out the trailer:

More details about Screenbound

Em Screenbound, players will solve a series of “mind-boggling puzzles where the limits of dimensional space” will be tested. Everything you do while playing Qboy will be represented in the levels in which the character is adventuring.

This premise opens up an interesting range of possibilities, such as, for example, instigating exploration to find hidden areas — as well as facing different types of enemies through Qboy’s 2D screens to receive loot in the game’s 3D phase.

In the game’s story, the protagonist’s mother finds the laptop lost in the garage and hides it for a long time, until things get out of control and hidden secrets end up coming to light.

Another really cool aspect of Screenbound is the possibility of creating and editing 2D levels in Qboy — at the same time that these levels are transported to the 3D world where the protagonist is adventuring.
