Indiana Jones and the Great Circle It generated a lot of discussion among fans because of the choice of camera. Being one of the most iconic characters in pop culture, many expected a third person game to see the character in action.
Despite the criticism, design director Jens Andersson defended the decision. According to him, the first -person perspective was “something natural” for Machinegames. “There was no choice – we love this perspective. It’s a great way to tell stories”he said.
For the designer, the goal was to make players really feel like Indiana Jones. And for that, they had to see the world through the eyes of the character. He believes this was one of the points the studio got it right.
“If you are going to be Indiana Jones, you need to see through his eyes, do you need to feel like him. How would we, first person player, feel like Indiana Jones? We knew it would be very difficult, but in fact, it was one of the things we felt we could get. Of course it was not the hardest part to do in this game.
