The Google search engine released the list of most searched terms throughout 2023 in Brazil and around the world. The ranking includes the games category, with the titles that have been most searched by the public in recent months.

The lists are relatively similar to each other and feature some of the most praised and awarded games of the year, as well as some surprises. However, we also have some surprises appearing in both relationships.

The most searched games of 2023 (Global)

  2. The Last of Us
  3. Connections
  4. Battlegrounds Mobile India
  5. Starfield
  6. Baldur’s Gate 3

  8. Diablo IV
  9. Atomic Heart
  10. Sons of the Forest

The global ranking is led by Hogwarts Legacy, the open world game based on the Harry Potter franchise. In addition to being highly anticipated by fans of the saga, the controversies surrounding the author JK Rowling and the boycott by the community may have boosted research into the game.

Some of the most popular global games are not famous here in Brazil. Connectionsfor example, is a crossword and logic game hosted on The New York Times website. Suika Gamealso called “Watermelon Game”, is a colorful puzzle game.

Already Sons of the Forest is a survival and horror title released for now only on PC this year. The title is available in early access and will receive a full version in the future.

The most searched games of 2023 (Brazil)

In the Brazilian list, the leader is the same game and some names are repeated, but in different positions. See the national top 10 below:

In the Brazilian ranking, the research mainly involved AAA games, including members of large franchises or major titles that were highly popular throughout the year for PC and consoles. Baldur’s Gate 3, the GOTY winner of the main prize at The Game Awards 2023, is also repeated and is even better positioned on the national list.

The fighting genre is well represented, as is RPG. Atomic Heart, a first-person action game set in an alternate world where the Soviet Union thrived in science and technology, appeared on both lists.

The absence of mobile or more casual games is the main difference to the overall list. You can check the list of most searched terms on Google Trends in other categories, including films and series.
