God of War Ragnarok recently arrived on PC with a port bringing several technical new features, including compatibility with the Steam Deck and frame generation technologies. However, upon its release, the game ended up receiving negative reviews from some players because of the mandatory login to the PlayStation Network.

Implemented in some new Sony games on the PC, the new feature allows the user to use some functions of the PlayStation ecosystem on the computer, such as profile and trophies. While the decision to integrate the systems is part of Sony’s larger strategy, a representative from Santa Monica Studios commented, in an interview with Voxel, about the implementation of the new feature in God of War and its possibilities.

Matt DeWald, Santa Monica technical producer responsible for bringing God of War Ragnarok to the PC, explained to Voxel how the implementation of PlayStation Network works in single-player games. According to the developer, the objective of the development team is create an imperceptible experience that does not bother the user.

God of War Ragnarok possui overlay da PlayStation no PC.

“There is an SDK (development kit) that we can implement for login and our goal is to make everything as simple as possible”, explains the Santa Monica employee. According to the developer, the team aims to avoid headaches for the user, such as ensuring that login only needs to be done once. “For us, the job is to make sure everything works in a simple way.”

Producer would like to see cross-save between PC and PS5

The member from Santa Monica also commented on the possibilities brought by the integration of the PlayStation Network system with the PC. According to Matt DeWald, one of his personal desires was see a cross-save system between PlayStation consoles and the computerallowing you to continue the progress of a PS5 game on the Steam Deck, for example.

“I think a lot of people would love that. There are a huge number of complexities that go beyond the game, such as platform control and other things that pose barriers to implementation”, explains the experienced developer. “But I think the sky is the limit on the possibilities as we continue to develop these systems and get more things out of this.”

RagnarokGod of War Ragnarok is now available on PC with integration with the PlayStation ecosystem.

DeWald used as an example the use of the trophy system, which was initially tested in Ghost of Tsushima and should become a standard in PlayStation games on PC. “It is a constant evolution that we can make. I can’t speak for Sony, but from my perspective, I would love to bring cross-save and get it working.”

God of War Ragnarok is now available on PC, PS4 and PS5. For more details about the game on the computer, check out more details from our interview with Santa Monica and Jetpack Interactive, who ported the game to Steam.
