Achieving respectable numbers just a few hours after its debut, Black Myth Wukong It has already broken records on Steam, where it reached more than 2 million simultaneous players.
Chinese RPGs are certainly one of the biggest surprises of the year. So if you’re thinking about venturing there, it’s important to know a few things before diving headfirst into the Monkey King’s journey.
As always, the Voxel is here to help you and has put together a list of five things you need to know before playing Black Myth Wukong — which you can check out below!
5 – Performance and technologies on PC
Graphically, Black Myth Wukong is stunning — with some performance analysts like the ElAnalistaDeBitsclaiming that the game sets a new standard for visual quality. We tested the PC version of the game, courtesy of a key provided by Nvidia, and the game features one of the most complete implementations of ray tracing and DLSS seen to date.
The game supports DLSS 3.0, ensuring improved performance especially on RTX 40, and comes with “full realistic ray tracing”, courtesy of Path Tracing technology. Taking advantage of all this technology, however, requires a powerful PC.
Before being released, the game received a free benchmark tool on Steam, which can be used to see if your machine can handle the load. However, it is important to note that when using all the graphic resources, the game becomes quite heavy.
While the PC version offers a graphically complete experience, but it can be a burden on the hardware, the PS5 is also running the game in an optimized manner. In some parts of the gameplay, the dynamic resolution ends up dropping, which can result in image artifacts.
Vbut remember that these specific problems do not completely ruin the experience — however, if you are picky about this aspect, keep this in mind. Of course, updates with fixes will be released in the futureso it’s probably just a matter of time until everything is 100% optimized.
4 – Black Myth Wukong is not open world
Throughout the promotional period, several trailers were released and gave the impression that Black Myth Wukong would be open world — if I’m not mistaken. Despite the robustness of its universe, now that the Chinese RPG is available, it has become clear that it is not an experience open-world.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s bad or that players who were hoping for an open world shouldn’t play it — quite the opposite. The RPG’s stages are large and provide good moments of exploration, as well as epic battles and good places to farm XP.
3 – Playing time is satisfactory
Many of the new generation of action RPGs are based on long experiences, which often exceed 30 hours of gameplay. Black Myth Wukong You’ll only play this long if you want to enjoy everything the game has to offer.
However, if you’re the type who prefers to get straight to the point, the game can take around 20 hours on average — depending on how well you adapt to the challenges. Well, quantity is not quality, but you probably won’t be disappointed if you decide to complete the game 100%. Black Myth Wukong.
2 – Magnificent cutscenes, but too long
And it’s not just the gameplay of Black Myth Wukong that is beautiful, no. The cutscenes of the Chinese RPG are also phenomenal and bring moments badass in the best style God of War. However, sometimes they are too long.

As mentioned above, the game takes approximately 20 hours to complete — while 100% completion takes around 30 hours. The game has a little over three hours of cutscenes, which represents about 20% of the main campaign’s length and almost 10% of the entire package.
Well, if you like cutscenes from games like the ones in the franchise God of War e Hellbladeyou probably won’t have any problems. But if you like to get straight to the point, you’ll have to deal with it.
1 – Black Myth Wukong is not soulslike
Another piece of information that was implied in the promotional trailers for Black Myth Wukong was whether the Chinese RPG had a little bit of a soulslike feel to it — a genre popularized by FromSoftware. At first, many believed it did, precisely because the combat was reminiscent of the great epic battles of games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twicefor example.
Black Myth Wukong fits into the soulslite category, which is a more accessible variant of soulslike.Fonte: PlayStation
However, that doesn’t seem to be the case — at least in parts. Despite the intricate combat heavily based on dodging and other gameplay elements, such as the lack of an option to adjust the difficulty and the overall concept of the game, Black Myth Wukong is considerably more forgiving of mistakes and deaths than any of FromSoftware’s titles, not to mention that you don’t lose much when you die.
We have a text here on Voxel explaining what is a soulslike game. Therefore, perhaps it would not be a mistake to classify the Chinese RPG in the soulslite category — which is a more accessible variant of the genre.
