The controversial GTA: The Trilogy Definitive Editionwhich includes the first three games from the franchise’s 3D era in soft remake format, received a surprise update this Tuesday (12) — almost two years after the release of the last update.

For those who don’t remember, the reception of GTA The Trilogy in 2021 it was one of the worst in the history of the franchise due to serious technical problems that compromised the experience with the remastered version. After being bombarded with negative reviews by the public, the game subsequently received some considerable improvements.

New update for GTA: The Trilogy Definitive Edition brings new classic filter to the game

The new free update of GTA: The Trilogy is now available for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Among the main additions, the update introduces a Classic Lighting Mode that was launched alongside the mobile version last year.

The mode restores the appearance of the original games — which certainly brought even more fidelity to the classics. Check out the differences between the old lighting and the new lighting mode below:

GTA Definitive Edition just received an update that added the classic lighting option. I’m not going to lie, it actually looks cool on a screen bigger than a cell phone,” said the user TJGM on X (formerly Twitter). “I’m going to test it now to see if the same problems still exist with it, as happened with the cell phone a year ago.”

Studio responsible for the GTA trilogy is no longer mentioned in the game

Finally, it appears that Grove Street Games, the original developer responsible for GTA: The Trilogyis no longer mentioned anywhere in the game. The mobile versions were developed by Video Games Deluxe — the Australian studio behind LA Noire VR Case Files.
