Nintendo sues player who streamed the company’s leaked games, but he doesn’t care

Nintendo’s hammer of justice continues to “sing” for those who don’t toe the line when it comes to pirating their games. We had several cases like this in 2024 and the most recent of them is an action against a streamer who continues to stream pirated Switch games on platforms like YouTube and Twitch.

According to information, Jesse Keighin, streamer also known as Every Game Guru“repeatedly” streamed pirated Switch games on its channels. Furthermore, the streamer even provoked the Japanese giant, stating that he could not be caught for this.

Well, it didn’t take long for Nintendo to take legal action against Keighin. According to the company, the streamer “is a repeat pirate who has obtained and streamed leaked Nintendo games on several occasions.”

Every Game Guru has reportedly streamed at least 10 pirated Nintendo games on its channels

According to information from the lawsuit, since 2022 Keighin has streamed “at least 10 leaked Nintendo games” before they were released — “more than 50 times in total”, the most recent being Mario & Luigi: Brothership.

Nintendo claims that while it sent “dozens of takedown notices,” which ultimately resulted in the streamer’s YouTube and Twitch accounts being banned, it says Keighin “continues to illegally stream copyrighted works and mock Nintendo and law”.

The report also states that Keighin taunted Nintendo and sent the company “a letter boasting that he has ‘a thousand channels of recording’ to stream and ‘can do this all day.'” Additionally, the streamer is accused of regularly posting links to repositories of illegally obtained ROMs and emulators.

“By not only streaming leaked games, but also directly providing users with links to circumvention software, Nintendo’s proprietary cryptographic keys, and repositories of pirated ROMs, the defendant is giving his viewers everything they need to pirate as many games as they want,” claimed the Japanese giant.

“In fact, the defendant recently boasted online that he wants to ‘help anyone who wants to get Nintendo games for free (and early) or who needs help installing and configuring emulators that let them play Switch games for free,'” concluded.

Nintendo sues streamer for more than $150,000

Well, for broadcasting pirated games from the Japanese giant and offering easy ways for its audience to do the same, Nintendo is asking for US$150,000 in the lawsuit, claiming damages “with respect to each copyrighted work.”

Mario’s house is also seeking $2,500 for each “act of evasion” committed by Keighin for each time he “uploaded unauthorized copies of games to Ryujinx, Yuzu, or another emulator and streamed them” — as well as $2,500 for each time he offered to help the public play emulated games.
