Microsoft is preparing a next generation console, a console described as premium that will arrive within the next two years to satisfy the desires of the most demanding gamers, who continue to prefer to play in the living room.

Following the announcement that Halo will be coming to PlayStation from now on, the manufacturing of Xbox devices by Asus and Xbox’s statement that exclusives are pointless, many are speculating that Microsoft will abandon console manufacturing, but Windows Central assures that the new Xbox machine will hit stores, even if it is actually a PC.

According to Windows Central’s sources, the next Xbox is a TV-optimized Windows machine with a console-like experience, which basically suggests that Microsoft’s approach to portable devices will, in some ways, be applied to its strategy for taking over your living room.

Playing Steam games, including PlayStation Studios games, Battle.net titles like World of Warcraft, and Xbox games on one machine is what Microsoft is aiming for, but if this “Windows in your living room” vision is somewhat predictable, Windows Central says Microsoft is going further.

While preparing the new strategy for Game Pass, taking into account that the next console is basically a living room PC, Microsoft is, according to Windows Central, planning to end the requirement to pay to play online, something it already does on the PC. This idea is reportedly still being studied, but taking into account the format of the next console, many argue that it no longer makes sense to ask for money to access online modes.

If Microsoft comes forward with a desktop PC where you can play games from any digital PC store and not pay to play online, it will be a fixed-spec machine, with benefits for game developers, and a strong case for console gamers who want the power of the PC and many of the conveniences of that platform.
