In March this year, the Windows Central stated that Microsoft was working on prototypes of a “fully native portable Xbox”. Well, according to new official information, it seems that the North American giant’s portable console really exists — but it won’t hit the shelves anytime soon.

Despite the good news that the Xbox portable will actually get off the ground, the launch is still a few years away — and there isn’t even a prediction, in fact. Who says this is the head of Xbox Gaming himself, Phil Spencer, in a recent interview with Bloomberg.

The Xbox family may have its first portable, but that will take a while to happen.

According to Microsoft’s high-ranking executive, who spoke about the subject once again, the expectation is that the company will “do something” in terms of portable devices — although the potential device is still a few years away.

Currently, the North American giant’s team of engineers is working on prototypes and considering the best possible scenario for the console based on what they have learned from the current market.

“I think our team could do some really innovative work, but we want to be informed by learning and what’s happening now,” the executive explained.

The focus at the moment is to make Game Pass run well on existing portable devices

In the short term, according to Spencer, Microsoft will focus on making its Xbox Game Pass app work better on existing portable devices — as well as forming new partnerships with hardware manufacturers to ensure its products are well supported on those platforms.

Game Pass has a vast catalog that can be accessed by devices other than consoles and PC.

Xbox Game Pass is currently available in different subscription tiers, which also include platforms other than Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

In Ultimate mode, for example, you will be able to play the service’s game catalog via the cloud — which can be accessed both on Android and iOS cell phones and Samsung brand smart TVs. Therefore, it is an extremely democratic service for any member.

With the news of the new Xbox portable console, this will certainly be another option for players to enjoy Game Pass titles.
