Originally released in 2018 on the Xbox ecosystem, Sea of Thieves arrived on PlayStation 5 at the end of April, and has already established itself as the most downloaded game of the month in Europe. With that done, the title surpasses popular names like GTA 5the recently released Stellar Blade and the thunderous Helldivers 2. The information was released by PlayStation itself, in a publication on the brand’s official blog this Thursday, the 9th.
In the United States and Canada, the situation is not very different. According to the publication, Sea of Thieves occupies third place among the most downloaded games of Apriljust behind Stellar Blade e Helldivers 2 – which are second and first placed, respectively.
The survey, it is worth noting, focuses on most downloaded titles in the respective regions and excludes free games. Therefore, it is a sales thermometer in the digital store for PlayStation consoles.
With new weapons, intriguing tools, an ever-evolving world and endless stories still to be written, there’s never been a better time to sail the Sea of Thieves. Xbox’s presence in the competition
The news was already received with optimism by Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, in the company’s financial report last month.
At the beginning of the year, it is worth remembering that the brand announced a strategy to make at least four of the exclusive titles in its catalog available on other platforms, namely: Repentance, Grounded, himself Sea of Thieves e Hi-Fi Rushwhose studio was sadly closed this week.
Now that the company also owns the intellectual properties of Activision Blizzard and Bethesda, Satya Nadella celebrated that Microsoft had seven of its games among the 25 most popular on the PlayStation Store until April 18th, more than any other publisher on the platform – including Sony itself, which had five of its games listed.
At the time, he referred to the following titles:
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2º lugar);
- Overwatch 2 (7º lugar);
- Sea of Thieves (still on pre-sale, 12th place);
- Fallout 4 (16th place);
- Minecraft (19th place);
- Fallout 76 (20th place);
- Grounded (23º lugar).
In the executive’s words, this would show how Microsoft “is committed to meeting gamers where they are by bringing great games to more people and on more devices.”
