According to recent leaks, the Steam owner is allegedly working on a shooter called Deadlock — which hasn’t even been officially announced but already had almost 17,000 simultaneous players last weekend, according to SteamDB.

For a game that supposedly doesn’t exist, there are quite a few people there, right? Right now, There are almost 5,000 people playing Deadlock — and if this potentially means anything, it’s that Valve has opened playtests to release the shooter. Now all that remains is to know when.

Deadlock hasn’t even been revealed by Steam and already had almost 17,000 simultaneous players on the platform last weekend, according to SteamDB.Source: Steam

The numbers behind these secret playtests are not indicative of how successful Deadlock will be, but they’re still pretty impressive considering there hasn’t been a formal announcement yet. For comparison’s sake, PlayStation’s next shooter, Concordbarely managed 2,000 players on Steam during its open beta — and Deadlock has already won eight times more players.

What is known about Deadlock so far?

According to leaks, which came from content creators Gabe Follower e Tyler McVicker in May, Deadlock has many similarities with the Overwatchfrom Blizzard. The shooter has been in development since 2018 and will have a large map with four attack lanes that have tower defense mechanics, as well as several items and abilities to use.

McVicker adds that Deadlock will have a fantasy setting “mixed with steampunk, magicians, strange creatures and robots”, as well as “fast-paced gameplay”. He also suggests that the experience is a “combination of Dota 2 com Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valuing, Smite e Orcs Must Die“.

“Hero design heavily inspired by the universe Dota“, McVicker said. “The main map references the modern European steampunk city (a bit like Half-Life). Initially, the game had science fiction elements inspired by Half-Life e Portalbut after bad feedback the development team decided to focus on fantasy.”

Deadlock has not yet been officially revealed by Valve

It is worth remembering that Valve has yet to officially confirm that it is working on Deadlock — and not even if the shooter will ever see the light of day. However, with a successful playtest like this last weekend, it will certainly be another hit in the Steam catalog, which already has countless hits.
