The Last of Us series already has two full seasons launched, while a third season is still in progress, being completely focused on Abby’s perspective.

It wouldn’t be strange to think that season three was the last, as it would adapt the rest of The Last of Us Part II, but the series may end with two more seasons or a long season.

Casey Bloys, HBO’s head, indicated that the series may end in season three or extend for one more, depending on the decision of the Craig Mazin showrunner.

“The series is definitely planned for 2027. Craig is still deciding whether it will be two more seasons or a longer season,” said Bloys. “This has not yet been decided, and I am following Craig’s leadership at this point.”

In other words, Craig Mazin who sends, and in the end he will decide whether to be a longer season to complete the story or divide the rest of the narrative into two seasons (third and fourth).

Remembering that Neil Druckmann, one of the creators of the game and the series, has left the scriptwriting team to focus on Naughty Dog projects as a new game (Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet).

The third season arrives in 2027.
