HBO has announced two more new actors for the second season of The Last of Us. They are Young Mazino, who will play Jessie, and Isabela Merced, who will play Dina.
With the revelation, the duo was joined by Kaitlyn Dever, who will play the controversial character Abby in the next episodes of the series. The cast joins Pedro Pascal (Joel), Bella Ramsey (Ellie) and Gabriel Luna (Tommy), who have also been confirmed.
The series’ co-creators took advantage of the publicity to reveal a little about each character. Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said Jessie is “a pillar of her community who puts everyone else’s needs before her own, sometimes at a terrible cost.”
Regarding actor Young Mazino, Mazin and Druckmann praised his past work and said that the production is “very lucky” to have him.
As for Dina, the producers said she is a “warm, bright, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable” character.
Speaking about the interpreter Isabela Merced, the producers revealed that “we couldn’t be more proud to have her join our family”.
Who are Young Mazino and Isabela Merced?
Young Mazino is a 32-year-old American actor of Asian origin. He participated in productions such as Blue Blood, Tommy, Prodigal Son e Good Boy.
His biggest role, however, was in the series THIRDreleased by Netflix in 2023. Playing the character Paul Cho, he was nominated for an Emmy in the category of best supporting actor in a series, limited film or anthology.
Isabela Merced is a young 22-year-old actress who has North American and Peruvian nationality. She acted in films such as Transformers: The Last Knight, Sicario 2, Let It Snow e Family Justice.
One of Merced’s most important projects took place in 2019. She is the protagonist Dora the Explorer in the live-action film about the character from the children’s cartoon.
