After an extensive lineup of releases last year, 2024 started off on the right foot thanks to Prince of Persia: Lost Crown — which arrived in January and was considered by many critics to be one of the best games in the franchise. Despite the great reception, it seems that the game did not achieve the expected commercial success, which ended up resulting in another sad end for Ubisoft.

According to YouTuber sources Todayinitial sales of Prince of Persia: Lost Crown were well below what was expected by the French publisher. Therefore, any possible sequel was effectively ruled out just weeks after its premiere earlier in the year.

The most ironic part of all this is that the game had a great reception upon its release. The game did well in reviews, achieving an average score of 86 on Metacritic, but unfortunately it didn’t reach its sales goals.

Prince of Persia: Lost Crown appears to have been a joy for the production team

The report says that some team members suggested the creation of a second game, but that the proposal ended up becoming two expansions. Today it also claims that the production did not suffer any problems and that the team found it “a joy” to work on.

“I heard or read ‘the best production of my life’ three or four times in one weekend about the development of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown“, added the YouTuber on X (formerly Twitter). Even with the positive reception and happiness of the developers, this was not enough to keep the team active.

“He gave hope for another way to create and a rehabilitation zone for people exhausted by Beyond Good and Evil 2but the team was dissolved by Ubisoft”, he concluded Today.

Although it was not an official source that broke the news, Ubisoft confirmed the information after the Eurogamer. In a statement to the European vehicle, the game’s senior producer, Abdelhal Elguess, said:

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now at the end of its post-launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC releasing in September. Now we’re focusing on making the game available to more players: it was recently released on Steam and will be available on Mac at the end of the year,” said Elguess.

“Most team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have moved on to other projects that will benefit from their experience. We know gamers love this brand and Ubisoft is excited to bring more gaming experiences Prince of Persia in the future”, concluded the developer.
