In December 2023, Insomniac Games suffered a ransomware attack. The hackers’ actions consequently resulted in the leakage of several confidential company information, including canceled and ongoing projects.

At the time, an initial build of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC also went public and a group of modders made it playable on the platform through an unofficial version. Now, the Brazilian port already runs at 4K and 120 FPS — settings even more robust than the original PS5 version.

In a video published on YouTube recently, one of the modders involved in the project showed how the unofficial port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is running at 4K and 120 FPS on PC.

Of course, the developer used a respectable machine to achieve this quality, including an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and an Intel Core i9-14900K — both very high-performance hardware. Check out the video:

As you can see, using the CPU and GPU mentioned above it was possible to run the unofficial port at 120 FPS. There were drops to 100 FPS at times — but, even so, it is much higher than the 60 FPS in performance mode. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 no PlayStation 5.

Unofficial port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC received update with improvements

The Brazilian team responsible for unofficial port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 no PC also released a new update for the game. Some of the additions include improvements to shadows and general performance. Check out the patch notes:

  • Improvements to Black Cat Shader portals;
  • Anti-Venom status shader fixed;
  • Fixes for Anti-Venom Symbiote Particle Shader;
  • Fixes for Advanced Tech Miles Morales Suit and Lenses Shader;
  • Fix for Iron Spider Suit Shader (no longer glows);
  • Fixes for Bokeh particles, dust, and Sunflare shader;
  • Fixed screen overlay Spider-Sense shader;
  • More fixed shaders and placeholders.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 was also leaked in the attack on Insomniac Games

In addition to the initial version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC, last year’s Insomniac Games ransomware attack also led to the leak of a build of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

The same group responsible for the unofficial PC port of the game also worked on this build and managed to reproduce a very early version of the third game — which, apparently, will have a female protagonist. Check out the details at the link below:
