Starz released Spartacus’s first trailer: House of Ashur, the new series that continues the Spartacus universe. The story presents an alternative timeline, in which Ashur, a character previously considered a villain and given as dead, survives and assumes the control of a gladiator school in Rome. The ten -episode series is scheduled to open in the end of 2025.

One of the elements that most caught attention in the trailer was the introduction of Achillia, the first female gladiator of the series, played by actress Tenika Davis. The inclusion of this character is a big turning point for the series, which so far had almost exclusively male gladiators.

As bold as the idea is, the trailer is receiving negative criticism in the YouTube comments. People are questioning the historical accuracy of the presence of gladiators in ancient Rome, as the figure of gladiators is considered anacronic in the temporal context of the original series. In addition, the choice to focus the narrative in Ashur, a villain in the original series, is sharing fans.

Spartacus: House of Ashur has the challenge of balanced the renewal with the expectations of longtime fans in a saga marked by violence, politics and drama.
