The PlayStation 4 was launched in November 2013 and in 2025, 5 years after the arrival of the PlayStation 5, it still receives games and support from numerous publishers that take advantage of its features.
By remaining active for 12 years, the PS4 has demonstrated a longevity that surpasses that of any other system from Sony Interactive Entertainment, which finally seems ready to start saying goodbye to its previous generation console.
According to Insider-Gaming, SIE has begun informing its partners that it will end support for several features in spring 2026. This means that partners interested in taking advantage of them must submit their games for certification before the end of support.
The use of features such as presence in the activity feed, image and title storage, access to users and profiles, word filters and even the shared media application are among those that will be closed.
Within weeks, the PS5 will complete 5 years on the market, with a strong catalog of games at your disposal, several PlayStation Studios blockbusters without PS4 versions, and access to many games from publishers such as Ubisoft, EA, and Microsoft Gaming that do not receive a previous generation version. This could be used to encourage the transition, such as the temporary price cut of the PS5.
