
As revealed, Japanese Sony acquired 2.5% of Bandai Namco, equivalent to 16 million shares. The acquisition is part of a strategic partnership between Sony and Bandai Namco, focusing on collaboration in various areas of entertainment.
The partnership aims to expand the global audience of their franchises, especially in anime and manga. Toshimoto Mitomo, Sony’s chief of strategy, stressed that collaboration will combine the forces of both companies to maximize IPs’ value and carry out Sony’s long -term vision.
“Through this Bandai Namco Bandai Commercial Alliance and investment, such as two of Japan’s leading entertainment companies, Bandai Namco and Sony will concentrate their efforts to expand the global audience of their franchises, such as anime and manga, around the world and to strengthen engagement, especially in the field of anime, where they expect rapid market growth, while joining their strengths to create new experiences. Exciting and impactful for fans and, as a result of these efforts, maximize the value of intellectual properties. ”
Apparently the strategic partnership with Bandai Namco is not about games, but anime and manga. Sony already has 14.09% of FromSoftware, 5% of Digital Return and 4.9% of Epic Games.
Bandai Namco is known as franchises such as Tekken, Soulcalibur, Pac-Man, Ace Combat and Publishing Elden Ring from FromSoftware.
