Recently, news came that a publisher – allegedly Microsoft – would have removed the funding of a project from Romero Games, a studio led by veteran John Romero, which would have brought to her. Now Romero Games itself has publicly spoke out, clarifying that a lot of disclosed information was incorrect.
According to the official statement, the studio actually lost funding from its project, which was eventually canceled. Although the company has not mentioned the name of the publisher involved, he indicated that players have already managed to deduce their identity based on “public information” – a track that practically confirms that it is Microsoft.
Despite the blow, Romero Games stressed that it is not ending its activities. The studio is reevaluating its team, but claims to be doing its best to move on. Even received proposals from other publishers interested to continue the project.
We want to clarify the recent reports about the situation of Romero Games. These reports contain inaccuracies, and we feel it is important to clarify the facts.
The financing for our project was canceled and, consequently, our game was canceled.
Due to confidentiality agreements, we cannot disclose the publisher’s identity, although some people may deduce it from public information.
As a result, we need to reassess the entire studio team.
A Romero Games Not closedand we are doing everything to our power to make sure it does not happen. Any suggestion to the contrary is incorrect. We were even today in the studio to discuss the next steps with the team.
We have already been contacted by several publishers interested in helping us to complete the game, and we are evaluating these opportunities at the moment.
We thank you very much for the support we have received and will share new updates as soon as possible.
