Hi-Fi Rush was one of the big games of 2023 and brought a good phase to Tango Gameworks, although that did not guarantee its place in the Xbox Game Studios team. The Japanese studio was closed in May by Microsoft, putting an end to the dream of a new The Evil Within or even Hi-Fi Rush 2. Well, fortunately, the company has just been acquired by Krafton — house of PUBG e The Callisto Protocol.

As part of the integration, Krafton intends to work with Microsoft Gaming to ensure a smooth transition and maintain the continuity of Tango Gameworks. The goal is to allow the development team to continue working on its core properties, such as Hi-Fi Rush — as well as exploring future projects.

This is Krafton’s first major investment in the Japanese market

It is worth noting that this is the South Korean giant’s first major investment in the Japanese market. The company also committed to giving full support to the Tango team to “continue its commitment to innovation and delivering new and exciting experiences.”

“Krafton Inc. today welcomed the talented people of Tango Gameworks to its team, marking an exciting moment in the company’s global expansion and its first significant investment in the Japanese video game market,” the publisher said in a statement. “This strategic move will include the rights to Tango Gameworks’ acclaimed IP, Hi-Fi Rush“.

Change will not impact existing Tango Gameworks games

In the statement, Krafton also said that the change will not have any impact on the studio’s previous games, such as The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo e Hi-Fi Rush. All of them will continue to be available on their current platforms as well as on Game Pass.

However, not all Tango games will be moved to the new home. According to the Windows CentralMicrosoft will still own franchises like The Evil Within and Ghostwire Tokyo after the studio is sold.

Judging by Krafton’s decision to give Tango Gameworks autonomy to continue working on its core franchises, we can expect some great adventures to come. Although Shinji Mikami is no longer with the Japanese studio, a future announcement of The Evil Within 3 in partnership with Microsoft would certainly be seen positively by fans of the franchise.

Now that there is a new possibility that Hi-Fi Rush 2 happens, the question is no longer “if”, but “when”. Although this is mere speculationit makes perfect sense to continue a project that brought a lot of prestige to the studio last year.
