Last week, Microsoft fired about 9,000 employees, also affecting the Xbox Game Division, resulting in project cancellation and closing The Initiative, which was developing the now canceled Perfect Dark.
According to Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, Microsoft’s CFO, Amy Hood, has imposed on the “absolutely unrealistic” financial goals that will continue to damage the sector.
Tom Warren of The Verge, disagrees with Jez Corden, arguing that the goals reflect the reality of the Activision Blizzard Post-Achievement Business, while Corden maintains excessive demands.
“Microsoft’s financial director Amy Hood imposed the Xbox division a completely unrealistic financial goal, which will continue to hurt the sector. This is not over yet”shared Jez Corden.
“I don’t think it’s unrealistic, it’s just the reality of Xbox’s business after ABK’s acquisition. Without this agreement, Xbox’s revenue would be falling, and the bet on game pass has no return yet.”answered Tom Warren.
The financial goal imposed on Xbox would be difficult to reach, either in the current quarter or the rest of the fiscal year. With few relevant releases, such as The Oter Worlds 2, Microsoft may be betting on Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to boost the recipe.
There is still pressure on game Pass and Xbox Ally, and if the goals are not achieved, new layoffs can occur, suggesting that Xbox problems are far from over.
