After confirmation that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will arrive on PS5 in 2025Geoff Keighley held Gamescom viewers for a few extra seconds — but for good reason. In a surprise, Hangar 13 and 2K announced Mafia: The Old Countrya new game in the mafia franchise that will take players to where it all began.
The little teaser of Mafia: The Old Country shown at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live on Tuesday (20) doesn’t reveal much. However, it was possible to conclude that the game is a prequel and will address the origins of organized crime with “a gritty mafia story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily”. More details will be revealed in December — possibly at The Game Awards 2024. Check out the trailer:
Mafia: The Old Country will have a “deep and linear” narrative
Throughout the first three games in the franchise, players have seen many facets of the Mafia at different times in history. Now, it seems that Hangar 13 is ready to tackle the story where it all began.
“In the first three games of the franchise Mafiawe introduce players to the world of the mafia through brutal stories set in different eras,” said Nick Baynes, president of Hangar 13, in a press release.
“Em Mafia: The Old Countrywe are going back to the roots of what fans love about the franchise, creating a deep, linear narrative with that classic mob movie feel, visiting a stunning new setting and delivering it all in a compact, focused package that is perfect for fans of immersive experiences,” concluded the executive.
In the press release, 2K also revealed that the franchise Mafiawhich debuted in 2002, has sold over 34 million copies on PC and consoles. “Critics and fans alike praise the franchise for its rich narrative development, exceptional performances, and impressive attention to detail in period-appropriate settings,” 2K said.
