Ken Levine, creator of the acclaimed Bioshock game franchise, is currently working with her new project under the name of Judas at Ghost Story Games.
During a recent video interview, Ken Levine addressed several topics until he reached the point about Judas, where he ensured that the title will be old -fashioned, where the player buys the game and receives the full experience, without online components or live service.
As noted by Levine, the development of the game prioritizes telling an immersive story, transporting the player to a new universe, without intention of additional monetization. There are no microtransations or something, focusing on the player’s entertainment.
“I grew up playing single player games, and grew up at a time when certain types of monetization didn’t even exist. And I’m not here to say that this is good or bad, right? This is not my vibe. I know the kind of game I like to do, so we never played such a game.”
“Judas is an old -fashioned game. You buy the game and get everything. There is no online component, there is no live service, because everything we do is to tell the story and transport the player somewhere.”
“We are very lucky, and it is not a critique of those who do differently. Because, see, games are expensive to do. And we are lucky to work in a company that believes enough in our work to the point of saying, ‘Ok, you will work for a long time, will cost good money, and we won’t force these things in you.’ But I understand why this happens, you know? ”
“And I don’t blame anyone for trying to make a living. But I like to play the games I would like to play myself, and the kind of game I want to play is like this: I want to have an experience with a game, and that this game is just that. All he wants to do is entertain me, understand? Judas and our games have never had second intentions.”
“I am lucky to do this, because, look, it is a difficult time in the industry, as you know. Not everyone is so lucky as we can make a game that really seeks the joy of the player. My hope is that, although I think that, somewhat wrong, the industry has decided to need all these elements, if you look at the games that have really stood out in recent years, whether Baldur’s Gate, Kingdom, Kingdom, Kingdom, Kingdom, Kingdom Clair Obscu, Cyberpunk or The Witcher. ”
“These are very traditional single player games, and they don’t have this kind of monetization. And I think the audience has rewarded these games, especially in AAA space. Because everything is so expensive that companies want to look for other ways to monetize. I’m just grateful for us not having to do it, because it releases us to focus purely in creating the game for the player’s experience.”
Regarding Judas, the game will be quite similar with Bioshock, while its platforms are PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S | x. The release date is unknown.
