Microsoft laid off approximately 9,000 employees this week, many of them at various Xbox studios, including Forza MotorSport’s Turn 10 Studios. According to Jason Schreier, nearly 50% of employees were laid off, a number that immediately put the survival of the Forza MotorSport series in doubt.
Now, Fred Russell, who worked as a content coordinator at Turn 10 Studios, shared a message on his Facebook page in which he practically confirms that the Forza MotorSport series is dead, as those who remain will support Playground Games in Forza Horizon.
“Turn 10 Studios has closed the Forza MotorSport space and the team is no more. A very sad day for one of the best racing games. I loved my time there,” Russell wrote .
In addition to this message, Russell responded to some comments in which he was asked about what is happening. One of them suggests that Microsoft Gaming may sell Playground Games, so the opportunity to send Turn 10 employees there may not even exist.
Russel also said that “the legacy remains, even if there is no future for the game”, a message that will certainly spread sadness among all players who grew up with the Xbox brand and saw Forza MotorSport as the great reference of the genre on consoles.
