Ermac is coming to Mortal Kombat 1! See gameplay and fighter skills

With a host of features and a roster of iconic characters, Mortal Kombat 1 was one of the great fighting games of 2023 alongside Street Fighter 6. Several updates have been released in recent months and now the cast of the NetherRealm Studios game is about to get even bigger.

After Quan Chi, now it’s the turn of another iconic character (and much requested by fans) to debut in the cast of Mortal Kombat 1. That’s right, Ermac will be the next DLC fighter and arrives on April 26th.

Additionally, players who own the Kombat Pack will have guaranteed early access starting next Tuesday (16). Check out the trailer with the special appearance of Mavado, the next DLC fighter:

Disturbed and merciless

Ermac is one of the most iconic characters in the franchise. In Mortal Kombat 1, he will use his traditional powers of telekinesis, while skillfully combining other abilities with the souls he summons during the fight.

The fighter can use spirits to catch opponents off guard, opening up space for stylish combos and synchronized blows — in addition to having the mobility of teleportation to better position himself during the fight.

Ermac can also imbue his body with souls to unleash even stronger abilities — including a demonic spirit that stabs the opponent in the back. His X-Ray special is also a spectacle in itself, as he summons three warrior souls holding spears that pierce the opponent’s chest mercilessly.

As for his Fatality, Ermac systematically dissects his opponent while spinning him in a kind of wheel — to, in the end, transform him into a small pile of flesh and blood. He looks more menacing than his previous versions.

Ermac’s trailer also featured a special appearance by Mavado, who will be the next fighter to reach the roster of Mortal Kombat 1. He hasn’t appeared in a new game in the franchise since MK: Tournament Edition, released in 2003 for Game Boy Advanced — more than 20 years ago. The premiere date will apparently be revealed in the coming weeks.

After all, who is Ermac?

Ermac is one of the most iconic characters in the franchise. He debuted in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, released in 1995 for Super Nintendo and arcades. The fighter is a kind of receptacle, where a bunch of souls live in one body.

In the official chronology, he was created by Shao Kahn and served as the executor of the Earthrealm. In the new timeline created by Liu Kang, Quan Chi creates him using the soul stealer to drain the Living Forest.

Although he appeared in story mode as one of the main characters, Ermac only arrived now via DLC as a fighter in the cast — just as he did with Quan Chi post-launch.
