Another wave of layoffs has hit the global gaming market. It was Bungie’s turn to lay off 220 employees, which represents 17% of its total contingent. The announcement was made by the company’s CEO, Pete Parsons, in a post on social media. According to him, the reason was the cost cutting of the producer, which was already operating in the red.

Furthermore, about 155 employees from the company were also relocated to other Sony Interactive Entertainment studios.. According to Parsons, the idea is to expand the integration between Bungie and Sony, which acquired the developer in 2022, for a value of around 3.6 billion dollars.

As a way of “softening” the situation, Pete Parsons also stated that the dismissed employees will receive all due compensation, bonuses and extension of the health plan.

Bungie also made staff cuts in 2023

This isn’t the first time Bundie has made major cuts to its studios. In October 2023, the company will also laid off about 100 employeesand ended up being harmed by this, since the layoffs directly affected the expansion The Final Form of Destiny 2causing it to be postponed. The same happened with Marathona game that is now only expected to hit stores in 2025.

According to Pete Parsons’ statement, the company currently has around 850 employees, who in turn are working in Destiny 2 e Marathon. So far there is no information about further delays for the company’s next big game, or whether this will affect another project yet to be announced.
