In March this year, it was officially announced that the Star Wars Hunters game will be closed and its servers will be disabled from October this year, in other words, the game died.
Announced in February 2021 during a Nintendo Direct, the game faced several postponements before release. When released, it came only to Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
Usually, a game receives this destination when it fails, especially if it is a title as a service, as is the case of Star Wars: Hunters. However, Zynga’s CEO said the game is not considered a failure.
“We had some problems with how we could explore intellectual property, could you play with Darth Vader or not? “We ended up playing a multiplatform game for switch and mobile that rolled perfectly. It was fun. But it couldn’t engage in the long run. And it wasn’t a viable business.”
He pointed out that the team built a “great technology base” and a “fun game”, but did not become a “viable business” due to the lack of “organic facilities” generated by the Star Wars license.
The CEO sees the end of Star Wars Hunters as an opportunity for Zynga to try again with another project, using the developed technology base.
A port for PC has been canceled, and the game will remain available only for switch and mobile until closing.
