Not last Saturday (28th), Death Stranding 2 received numerous news and gameplay snippets! The update was revealed during the Tokyo Game Show, including a question and answer panel with the development team — including Hideo Kojima himself.
Maintaining the mysterious approach, the presentation interspersed behind-the-scenes excerpts and new gameplay scenes, which this time formally introduced some characters. Among them, there is a highlight for Tarman (George Miller), Tomorrow (Elle Fanning) and Rainy (Shioli Kutsuna), as well as a special appearance by Heartman, who reprises the role played by Nicholas Winding Refn and voiced by Darren Jacobs.
In the gameplay excerpts, it is possible to see more about the DHV Magellan vessel, a type of ship/ship/submarine used to navigate the tar sea. Apparently, the structure will function like the new “Rooms” seen in Death Strandingwhere Sam can rest and organize his arsenal. There, it will also be possible to visit other characters’ dormitories.
New and important Photo Mode for history
Speaking of the other characters, they gained an unusual focus in the presentation. Improving the Photo Mode from the first game, Death Stranding 2 will allow players to record very charismatic polaroid photographs. For example, the excerpt shows Tomorrow, Rainy and Fragile posing for the camera in a very natural way.
Apparently, this “special” Photo Mode can be used in specific parts of the campaign, and the photos recorded will also influence the plot.

Death Stranding 2 will arrive in 2025
During the Tokyo Game Show panel, Kojima confirmed the release window for Death Strading 2: “As we are talking about 2025, it will be released next year, so we will announce it sometime next year,” he explains. He also comments that the premiere date has already been defined, but that it cannot be shared for “unforeseen reasons”.
Opening space for speculation, as usual, Kojima’s speech raised some theories among fans. While some point out that the director is saving the reveal for the stage at The Game Awards, an event hosted by his friend Geoff Keighley, others claim that he is waiting for more information about the launch of other major games — and even the Switch 2.

Although both theories are valid, the second seems to be more sensible, as 2025 promises to be one of the busiest years in the games industry. Notably, the biggest highlight is Grand Theft Auto 6which can scare away many other releases due to the size of its relevance.
