Dead Space Creator suggests that you can stop driving games for lack of financial support

Dead Space creator and director of The Callisto Protocol, Glen Schofield, suggested that he may have directed his last game, saying that a new AAA game seems to be too far away for him.

Glen Schofield pointed out that the game industry is facing difficulties, especially to find funding for new projects.

In the last eight months, he has worked with his daughter, Nicole, in an innovative idea idea, described as a new terror subgenre, but the project was unable to get financial support.

“The game industry is hard around. In the last eight months, I have been working quietly with my daughter, Nicole, in a new idea of the game. She introduced me to the concept, and I immediately loved it. It was something I had never seen before. We were calling a new subgenre of horror, not just horror, but something else.”

“We reduced the budget to $ 17 million, we did a prototype with a short and talented team and started presenting the idea. People loved the concept. We got many second and third meetings. But in initial feedback, we heard to 10 million. Recently, this number fell to 2-5 million.”

“So last month we decided to give up. Some ideas are better to leave quiet than to do anyway, without quality. We had a team of six people here in the United States and a full team in the United Kingdom. Now everyone is looking for work. They are all talented professionals, if you are hiring, let me know.”

“I miss everything, the team, the chaos, the joy of creating something for the fans,” he wrote. “I’m still here, making art, writing stories and ideas and continuing to cheer for the industry. But maybe I’ve directed my last game. Who knows? If so, thanks for playing my games.”

Glen Schofield founded the Striking Distance in 2019 to create The Callisto Protocol, which evolved from a game in the PUBG universe to an independent horror title, but had sales below Krafton expectations.

Glen Schofield left Striking distance in September 2023 after mixed criticism and disappointing sales of The Callisto Protocol. His daughter, Nicole, was also fired from the studio.
