Bungie wants to make Destiny 2 more friendly for newbies

Destiny 2 has been available on the market since 2017 and millions of players have ventured through the game universe, while a certain portion of newcomers are interested in the title, but finds it extremely confusing and challenging.

The good news is that Bungie is aware that Destiny 2 is challenging for new players due to the amount of complex systems, activities and mechanics.

The game’s direction assistant Robbie Stevens stressed that Bungie wants to make the initial experience more accessible/easier for new players, making it easier to get into the game.

“We need to find a way to offer a more guided experience for the early parts of the game,” says Stevens. “We also think that even for some more experienced players, more healed experiences are something they may want in a common game session. But in doing so, we want to ensure that it does not harm all depth and freedom of buildings of builds that a veteran or hardcore player expects to have.”

“What is the ideal focus of an experience for new players and how to insert them into the game systems? For us, it is necessary to pay more attention to a more healed experience, starting from the principle that people already understand some basic notions of how video games work, and that’s not well that they don’t need so many instructions at this point.” Stevens says Bungie hopes to “spend a little more time helping the player to familiarize himself and offering guided experiences that make it better to understand how game systems work at a fundamental level, so that he can evolve from there.”

The intention is to create an initial experience that respects players’ intelligence, avoiding exaggerated tutorials for basic shooting game mechanics, but focusing on teaching Destiny 2 specific systems.

In addition, improvements in the experience of new players will not be limited to renegades expansion, but will be a continuous goal.

The game faces criticism for the removal of original campaigns, making the initial narrative less clear, but Bungie is working to improve accessibility and narrative.
