It’s official, Borderlands 4 will be launched to the Nintendo Switch 2 console on October 3, 2025, a few weeks after launch on September 12 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S | x.
Gearbox head Randy Pitchford announced the date on a peculiar video sitting on a throne with the phrase “Hail to the King.” He praised Switch 2, calling him an “amazing platform.”
Randy Pitchford stated that Borderlands 4 is in an advanced development stage, with the “cooking” team and the game being “amazing”, justifying the early release.

“I know many of you are excited with Borderlands 4 on Switch 2, because well, Nintendo Switch 2 is an amazing platform,” says Pitchford. “I bought one on the day of launch, I know that many of you also bought.”
“Some of you are planning to buy just to be able to play Borderlands 4 wherever you want, you can play anywhere. You can take Borderlands 4 with you. This is very cool, I’m very excited about it.”
Switch 2 has been described as a “perfect” platform for Borderlands 4, with Pitchford noting that Gearbox does not feel that it is “fighting the system” but being trained by it.
