With the launch of Overwatch 2Blizzard intended to give more prominence to the history of the game through an unprecedented PVE mode. However, the plans were canceled and the mode was eventually shelved. With fewer complementary content – such as animations, comics and other materials – the new title ended up offering even less narrative than the original. Now, Aaron Keller, director of Overwatch 2he acknowledged that the company disappointed fans in this regard.
“One of the things we heard a lot about players – and that you see online – is that it seems that Overwatch left to be desired when it comes to history and Lore. And we can see that. We used to release more of those big animated shorts than we do today.”
According to Keller, the initial proposal was to continue the narrative through PVE mode, but with the cancellation, the team had to retreat and rethink the project. With things back on the rail, developers now expect to return to the story they have to tell.
“Speaking frankly, we really had a big plan to invest in the story within the game. This involved the PVE mode, with the campaign and everything. But that didn’t work out. So it was kind of a moment of restart for us when it happened, and we would like to resume this idea. I think one of the best parts of overwatch is the universe and the characters. new in that direction. ”
