A human-sized Labubu doll

A human-sized Labubu doll has shattered records by selling for €139,800 (1.08 million yuan), becoming the most expensive toy of its kind ever sold, according to Yongle International Auction House in Beijing.

Standing 131 cm tall, the figurine headlined a Labubu-exclusive auction attended by around 200 people. In total, 48 items were sold, generating €436,600 (3.37 million yuan).

Labubu dolls—whimsical monster figures designed by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung and produced by Chinese toy giant Pop Mart—usually retail for just €6.40 (50 yuan). Their meteoric rise in popularity is fueled by celebrity endorsements and viral trends on TikTok and Instagram.

Global icons like Lisa from Blackpink, Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and David Beckham have helped catapult Labubu into pop culture stardom.

Despite a brief controversy in early 2024, when Pop Mart pulled the dolls from UK stores due to customer disputes, global enthusiasm remains strong. The craze has driven the company’s annual revenue to soar past €1.68 billion (13 billion yuan).
