For Microsoft Gaming, its biggest competitors are not PlayStation or Nintendo, they are social networks and other entertainment formats, which keep people away from consoles and video games.

Matt Booty, president of Xbox studios, spoke to The New York Times about the decision to put Halo Campaign Evolved on PlayStation 5, something that is related to the new era, in which people no longer feel a strong connection to the devices on which they play.

“We’re trying to meet people where they are. Our biggest competition isn’t another console. We’re competing more and more with everything from TikTik to movies.”

This comment from Booty, which positions social networks and films as Xbox’s biggest competition, comes days after Sarah Bond, leader of Microsoft’s video games division, commented that the policy of creating exclusives no longer makes sense.
