God of War from Amazon will not be 100% like the game: “It’s an adaptation/interpretation,” says Showrunner

God of War will be the next adaptation of a game by Amazon for the Prime Video. Unlike Fallout, which told an original story, this new series will focus on adapting Kratos adventures during the Nordic arch.

Commenting on the project, Showrunner Ronald D. Moore said they will adapt the best elements of the game, preserving the essence of the original, but also bringing new elements. For him, the series will be a kind of “adaptation/interpretation”.

“This world and this universe are really rich and interesting, and it has been a lot of fun to adapt them. It’s an adaptation, so it’s an adaptation/interpretation when you take to live-action, and it’s been a lot of fun to think, ‘Wow, there’s a lot here with what we can play. Okay, we want to keep the characters and the spirit of it.”

The showrunner also stated that Cory Barlog, director of the game, is helping to adapt. Ronald said he was impressed by Cory’s knowledge about the history of the franchise. “Cory can tell everything in every way possible – all mythology, how one thing connects to another, what the puzzles were, why they did it and what that artifact did. It’s really impressive.”commented the showrunner.

The first season of the series will have a total of 10 episodes, however, the creator still does not know how many seasons it will take to tell the whole story. “Personally, I never try to advance too much. I just try to say, ‘Our job for now is to go here. Let’s just go here, and not worry much about what next season or the next three seasons will be,” he said.
