So far, Marvel has avoided changing the actors of its most iconic characters. At the end of Avengers: Ultimatum, both Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans said goodbye to the MCU, which led to the retirement of their respective heroes, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. However, this approach may be about to change.
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, recently commented on the future of MCU after the Avengers events: Secret Wars, a debut movie scheduled for 2027.
“We are using this [história] Not just to complete the plots we have told after ‘ultimatum’, but also – and that’s equally important – you can look at ‘secret wars’ comics to understand where it takes us – it prepares us for the future. ‘Ultimatum’ was literally about finals. ‘Secret Wars’ is about beginnings. ”
However, the executive states that “Reboot is a scary word”. For him, this new phase of Marvel will be more like a fresh start, but not exactly a reboot. “’Reboot’ can mean many things for many people. Reinforce, singular timeline – we are thinking about these terms.”he commented.
Feige recognizes that replacing actors as striking as Downey Jr. and Evans will be a challenge – but not something impossible. The executive cited franchises such as James Bond and Superman as examples of successes in multiple reinterpretations.
“Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now looking for a new James Bond. David [Corenswet]the new Superman – he was amazing. And that will always be like this. I think it’s hard for anyone when an actor plays a role so well. How will you replace Sean Connery [como James Bond]right? ”
