Game monetization often generates controversy in the community, especially when paid titles exaggerate microtransations and receive severe criticism. Nevertheless, Ubisoft believes the model can be beneficial – as long as it is responsible.
In a recent document published by Ubisoft, the company states that its strategy of paid games microtransations aims to make the experience “more fun” for the player:
“The adoption of monetization and engagement policies that respect the player’s experience and be sustainable in the long run. At Ubisoft, the golden rule when developing premium games is to allow players to enjoy the game completely without having to spend more. Our monetization offering within premium games makes the player experience more fun by allowing them to customize their avatars or progress – however, this is always, this is always quickly – however – optional. ”
Ubisoft also states that its monetization strategy aims to “Enrich the experience”. For this, the company follows two main pillars when creating this content: it must be optional and fair content.
“Through their code of conduct, the group commits to adopt a fair and transparent approach to game monetization, offering fun, engaging and immersive experiences while ensuring the safety and well-being of players.”
