Artificial intelligence is constantly evolving and is already being used in everyday life in game development and also supporting entertainment productions such as movies and TV series.
During the Financial Report, Netflix’s Co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, shared his vision on artificial intelligence, betting high on it. He believes that Generative AI expands creativity in the production of film and series, going beyond simple cost reduction.
Ted Sarandos points out that creators are already using IA to improve processes such as preview, scenes planning and visual effects. In the case of the ‘The Eternal’ series, Netflix has collaborated with visual effects artists to use Ia on a building scene from a building in Buenos Aires, achieving impressive results.
“We are still convinced that AI represents an amazing opportunity to help creators make better, not just cheaper movies and series.”
“Therefore, they are real people doing real work with better tools. Our creators are already realizing the benefits in production through previewing, scenes planning and certainly visual effects.”
The sequence of visual effects on ‘The Eternal’ was completed ten times faster with AI tools compared to traditional visual effects methods.
“Using AI -based tools, they managed to achieve an amazing result with impressive speed, and in fact that sequence of visual effects was completed ten times faster than it could have been done with traditional VFX tools and workflows.”
“The breeders were excited about the result. We were excited about the result and, most importantly, the audience was also excited about the result. So I think these tools are helping the creators to expand the possibilities of telling stories on the screen, and this is infinitely exciting.”
The series was produced with a smaller budget than typical of major Hollywood productions, demonstrating that AI allows ambitious projects with reduced costs.
He emphasizes that AI is a tool to help real people do creative work, not just to cut costs, but to improve the quality of productions.
