After undergoing complicated moments, with failing games and the value of the company falling, Ubisoft announced a new partnership with the giant Tencent and here was born a new subsidiary.

Ubisoft’s new subsidiary is partially funded by an investment of € 1.16 billion from Tencent, which has a 25% minority stake in the new company.

The subsidiary will be responsible for managing Ubisoft’s three largest franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, operating autonomously over the mother company.

Christophe Derennes, current head of the Ubisoft US studios, and Charlie Guillemot, son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, were appointed co-ceos of the new subsidiary.

“With complementary trajectories, Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot bring a strong experience in the industry, deep knowledge of the Ubisoft ecosystem and a shared culture of innovation,” the company said.

Charlie Guillemot answered, “I would like to answer this question directly, if you allow me. I fully understand where it comes from, and I want to be clear about it. Yes, I’m Yves’s son. This is not something I hide. But my appointment is not just about family ties; it is what Ubisoft needs right now.”

He continued: “I spent the last decade building experience both inside and outside Ubisoft, leading teams, managing brands and dealing with changes in a quickly transformed industry. I also made the conscious choice to move away when I found it necessary, to learn and grow elsewhere.

“What matters now is not my last name, but the work we have ahead. Ubisoft is in a decisive moment. What is expected of me is to help the company advance, bringing energy, focus and counting on the incredible expertise that already exists in the teams. I see my role here as someone who will contribute, support and help create the right conditions so that everyone can do their best work.”

Christophe Derennes has been at Ubisoft for over 35 years, led Montreal’s studio and played important roles in the editorial and production of major titles.

Charlie Guillemot previously led the Owlient mobile game studio, went out in 2021 to co-fit the Web3 Unagi game company, and returned to Ubisoft in early 2025, when the deal with Tencent was structured.

Tencent has a minority participation in the company Dismembered, which is 100% controlled and consolidated by Ubisoft.
