A very curious case recently occurred and was shared on Reddit with everyone. According to one user, he was banned after playing using used Nintendo Switch 1 cartridges purchased from Marketplace.
The games were probably pirated, but the user didn’t know that. Nintendo’s DRM protection system detected the cartridges as unauthorized copies, and thus banishment was applied.
The restriction blocked access to online services, including the possibility of downloading legitimate games already purchased from the online store. The user then contacted Nintendo’s support, provided proof of purchase and had the ban on reversed.
“I was banned and then beside just by downloading patches of 4 switch games I bought on Facebook Marketplace. If you are banned, contact the support. It’s fast, simple and you talk to a real person that will help you.”
Nintendo uses unique codes in each cartridge to combat piracy. However, scammers copy the game to devices like Mig Flash and resell the original cartridge, causing the same code to exist in two places at the same time within the Nintendo ecosystem, in the end one will be banned.
The case serves as a warning to used games buyers, especially from unofficial sources, as Nintendo can quickly ban consoles when detecting game duplicates.
Banity policy is seen as potentially harmful to legitimate consumers, especially in the used game market, which is common due to the high prices of Nintendo games.
Then is the alert when buying used games.
