Just under a year ago, Rockstar suffered a hacker attack that resulted in the source code of GTA 5, in addition to confidential files from the North American studio with confidential information. Apparently, history repeated itself this Monday (11).

As reported by Daily Dark Weban updated version of the source code of GTA 5 is being sold on the Deep Web. The package, which was published on an online forum, includes the latest updates released for the open-world game.

The outlet published an image of an unreported forum, where a user claims he “infiltrated Rockstar’s employee email system.” He says he would have extracted the source code from GTA 5, including even the online version’s anti-cheat system.

“While there have been other source code breaches, Rockstar has already fixed the flaws that caused them to drift, so they’re pretty useless. Mine is the latest and most up-to-date, meaning if you made a cheat based on it, it would be totally functional”, added the alleged hacker.

When posting on the forum, the hacker also publishes a series of files in JPG format to prove that he has the information being sold. At the end of the text, he still announces that it is selling the GTA 5 source code for US$9,000 — and that the amount requested can be negotiated.

Alleged theft of GTA 5 source code has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar

Rockstar has experienced numerous hacker attacks in recent years, including one that leaked GTA 6 details early. So far, the company has not yet confirmed whether its systems were hacked and whether an updated version of the Grand Theft Auto V source code was stolen. Therefore, treat the text with great caution, as, for now, it is just a rumor.

If the information is confirmed, the leak could cause headaches for the company. After all, with the game’s source code circulating around, the tendency is for more cheats and hacks for GTA 5’s online mode to end up appearing on the internet.

About that, GTA 6 remains scheduled for the second half of 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Looking forward to the sequel? Comment your expectations on social media Voxel!
