Adapter that makes PS VR work on PS5 for the first time will be phased out by Sony

PS VR was launched by Sony in December 2017 for the PS4 — but its games do not run on the PS VR2 in any way. However, the Japanese giant’s first virtual reality device is fully functional on PS5 through dedicated support, which will be discontinued by Sony very soon.

If the player with the first PS VR in hand wants to play the device on the PS5, he will need an adapter for the PlayStation Camera — which is the only support method available, as the PS5’s HD camera is not compatible with the old device .

Now, according to the SIE support site, Starting November 26, 2024, or “while supplies last”, the PlayStation Camera adapter for running PS VR on PS5 will no longer be available anywhere in the world.

“From November 26, 2024, or until supplies last, the PlayStation Camera adapter will no longer be available”, confirms the Japanese giant in a statement in its official FAQ.

PS VR2 is not compatible with games from the first PS VR

Launched in February last year, the PS VR2 is the PlayStation 5’s virtual reality device and is not compatible with the original games from the first PS VR — which was released for PS4.

Therefore, with the unavailability of the PS Camera adapter on the market, there will be no other official option to play games from the first device on PlayStation 5.
